On the road, short haul and long haul truckers require different physical abilities. Truckers must be able to bend, lift heavy objects, handle sitting for long periods of time, and the ability to handle very high levels of stress and mental strain. A truckers body must have sufficient muscle tone in order to support the bones in the neck, back, and hope during long periods of sitting. Cardiovascular health should be in good order to avoid formation of blood clots while sitting.
Federal law requires all drivers of commercial vehicles to receive regular physical examinations. These exams are defined as the “Department of Transportation Medical Examinations.” D.O.T. Physicals are highly regulated for the drivers’ safety. They detect physical, mental, and emotional issues that can affect a drivers ability to safely drive a commercial vehicle. D.O.T. medical examiners are specially trained to understand the regulations and prevent drivers from being inappropriately disqualified. All D.O.T. physicals done with 203-URGENTCARE are performed by Board Certified, NRCME-certified clinicians.
